John Calvin Hopper
John Calvin Hopper, of 315 south Second street, died at 5:30 pm yesterday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Hopper, a retired employee of the Mt. Vernon car shops, was 78 years, four months and 14 days of age. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 pm at the Pulley Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Morrison Bundy and the Rev. Harold Conroyd will officiate and burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Pulley Funeral Home, where friends may call after 10 am Saturday. Mr. Hopper was born March 29, 1881 in Hamilton county, the son of Samuel and Pairlee (Pigg) Hopper. On June 27, 1902 he was married to Minnie Belle Pigg, who preceded him in death. He was a member of the North Side Church of God and of the B. R. C. of A. Mr. Hopper is survived by two sons, Clarence and Elmer, both of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Mrs. Wilma Sursa of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Alma Ruth Wyatt of Beecher, Ill.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Jesep Hopper of Mt. Vernon and Cairl Hopper of Erie, Kansas; and two sisters, Francis Winters of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Cynthia Zelhart of Chicago. His parents, wife, one son, two daughters, five brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
