Joshua HOPPER, aged 57, died at the family residence, 32 1/2 South Ninth Street at 2:30 Monday morning, after a lingering illness.

Before coming to this city two months ago, Mr. HOPPER lived in Moores Prairie, where he was a successful and prosperous farmer and stock raiser. His failing health was the cause of removal from the farm to this city. He was a good citizen and one in whom his acquaintances has confidence.

The burial will take place at Smith Cemetery, Tuesday.

Mr. HOPPER was a member of the Masonic Order.

Joshua HOPPER was born in Moores Prairie, Jefferson County, IL, January 1, 1852. Departed this life October 11, 1909 at 2:50 a.m. He was the son of Joshua and Adaline HOPPER, pioneer settlers of Moores Prairie.

He was a man with his likes and dislikes, but was sturdy, honest and industrious, a prosperous farmer, a good neighbor and citizen. Indeed, it will take Moores Prairie a long time to fill the vacancy caused by his death.

He professed faith in Christ about 5 years ago, and the writer visited and talked with him frequently about the future and his testimony, "I'm a Christian and am ready to go when He calls". He realized the end was near, yet he was patient and bore his suffering with Christian fortitude.

The funeral was conducted at Ham's Grove Church Tuesday, October 12, at 10:30 a.m., by Rev. W. J. Sneed, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Ina, and the body was laid to rest in Smith Cemetery. He leaves a wife, three sisters and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his departure.
