Orel Lena Hopper
Orel Lena, oldest daughter of ____ and M. F. HOPPER, was born _____ 1895; departed this life July 23, 1920, age 25 years, 6 months and 19 days. She was born and raised and lived her entire life in Jefferson County. She is survived by her father, mother, four brothers and three sisters. One sister, Mrs. Letha SULLIVAN, having preceded her in death over two years ago. Those living are: John E., Joseph C., Mrs. Victoria BUMPUS, Ellen Flora, Thomas J., and Lester; the two half-sisters are Mrs. Hattie BRADFORD, Decatur, Ill.; and Mrs. Della BOOK of Bonnie, Ill. While she never united with a church the Primitive Baptist seemed the church of her choice and a few moments before she died she said "How I wish I could die and be out of this suffering." She also told her mother a short while before that if she died not to be uneasy about her for she did not dread death. Surely the Lord was with her. She had such a bright and cheerful disposition and always ready and willing to help anyone in sickness. Funeral services were conducted by Eld. W. A. FISH, of Benton, Ill., at St. Elmo Primitive Baptist Church on Sunday morning to a large discourse of people and interment at Hams Grove Cemetery.
