Gertrude M. (Soper) Howard
Mrs. Gertrude M. Howard, 78, of 116 East Castleton Avenue, died at 3:10 am today at Good Samaritan Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 pm at Myers Chapel, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel after 4:00 pm Wednesday. Mrs. Howard was born on Dec. 17, 1892, in Washington county, the daughter of Henry and Kate (Newman) Soper. She was married to William J. Howard, who survives. She was a member of the Epworth Methodist church and of the Summersville Round Dozen club. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Maurice Howard, Huntley, Ill., Gerald Howard, Woodstock, Ill., and Charles Howard, Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Wilkins, Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Virginia Olin, Valparaiso, Ind., and Mrs. Joan Farthing, St. Petersburg, Fla.; four brothers, Harry Soper, McComb, Ill., John Soper, Jackson, Miss., and Charlie and Jessie Soper, both of Vienna, Ill., four sisters, Mrs. Ida Porter, Mrs. Laura Gibson, and Mrs. Edith Marlin, all of Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Carrie McCall, Vienna; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter.
