Jewell Oneida (Martin) Howard
Jewell Oneida (Martin) Howard, 91, of Mt. Vernon died 3 p.m. Feb. 21, 2005, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Martin was born July 9, 1913, in Mt. Vernon to William R. and Mary Eunice (Barnes) Martin. She married Hansel Howard April 17, 1932; he died April 8, 2001. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Johnston Funeral Home in Ina. The Rev. Jack Gatson will officiate. Burial will follow at Kirk Cemetery in Ina. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnston Funeral Home in Ina. Mrs. Howard is survived by a son, Carl William Howard and wife Ruth Ann of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Imogene Forgason and husband Tom of Peoria and Pauletta J. Cook and husband Andrew of Anderson, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, William R. Martin, a World War I prisoner of war; her mother, Mary Eunice (Barnes) Nelson; her husband, Hansel Howard; brothers Bill Martin and Russell A. Nelson; and a grandson, Danny Howard. Mrs. Howard was a member of Bonnie Church of God. She enjoyed her church, religious music, working puzzles with her friends and every second she could spend with her family and friends from Bonnie and Rose Lane.
