George Robert "Bob" Howell

George Robert (Bob) Howell, 83, of 815 N. 6th St., died at 12:03 a.m. today at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Mr. Howell was born in Jefferson county on Jan. 19, 1890, the son of John Roberds and Mary Angeline (Reddix) Howell.

On May 23, 1918, he was married in Mt. Vernon to Letha Moore who survives.

Mr. Howell was a retired employe of the maintenance department of the Illinois Power Co. He retired in 1955.

He was an Army veteran of World War I, and was a member of the American Legion Post 14,Mt. Verno, and the King City Barracks 102 of Veterans of World War I.

He was a memeber of the Park Avenue Baptist church.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Hughey-Pulley Funeral Home with the Rev. Ross Partridge officiating. Burial will be in the Black Oak Ridge cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Sunday.

In addition to his wife, Letha, Mr. Howell is survived by four sons, Clyde and Gale, both of Mt. Vernon, Harold, Paducah, Ky., and Homer, of Belleville; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five sons, including Claude who was killed in World War II. A brother and a sister also preceded him in death.


Note:
Other four sons are: Clarence, Charles, Cecil, and Royal all buried at Black Oak Ridge.
