Richard Hurd, age 60 of Lake of Egypt near Creal Springs, passed away peacefully at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at his home.

He was born on April 4, 1948, in East St. Louis, the son of John and Mamie (Rasin) Hurd.

Richard answered the call of this nation be enlisting into the United States Navy on April 28, 1965. After nearly three years of faithful service and his last assignment being aboard the USS Newport News, he was honorably discharged on February 29, 1968.

He was united in marriage to Connie Foust on August 24, 1974, in Caseyville and together they have shared over thirty four years of marriage.

For several years Richard worked as a truck driver and recently he and his family bought the restaurant, Sit a Spell, located at the Lake of Egypt.

He was of the Catholic faith. When he was not working he enjoyed outdoor activities especially fishing, hunting, four-wheeling, gardening, hot rods and was a fan of Dale Earnhardt and NASCAR racing.

Richard enjoyed his family and the many times they were together. The memories that were created will now be cherished by those left behind.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Hurd of the Lake of Egypt; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Amy Hurd of Marion, two step grandchildren, Tressa and Dakota Poole both of Marion; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Leslie and Dale Tyberendt of Plant City, Fla., and Carl Taylor of Caseyville, other extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Thomas Tyberendt.

Arrangements for Richard have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion, IL 62959. The visitation for the family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at the funeral home. The funeral service for Richard Hurd will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Wilson- McReynolds Funeral Home with Rev. Stacy Tate presiding. Interment will follow in Hopewell Cemetery of Mt. Vernon.

In memory of Richard Hurd, the family has requested memorial contributions made to the ALS Association, an association focused on helping those with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Memorial contributions envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be mailed in care of the Wilson-McReynolds funeral Home, P.O. Box 370, Marion, IL 62959.
