Charles R. “Bob” Hutchison
Charles R. “Bob” Hutchison, 84, of Mt. Vernon died 5:48 p.m. Feb. 25, 2005, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born Aug. 27, 1920, to Charles A. and Ina (Palmer) Hutchison in Mt. Vernon. On March 23, 1946, he married Ada Virginia Green in Mt. Vernon; she survives. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force, having served his country during the World War II, Korea and Vietnam eras. He was also retired from the Mt. Vernon Register-News, where he was an advertising agent for many years. He was a member of Central Christian Church for 73 years. He belonged to the Jefferson County Shrine Club; Mason AF & AM Lodge 31; Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, attaining 32 degree; Ainad Shriners of East St. Louis; American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1376, also of Mt. Vernon. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; two sons, David Hutchison and wife Carol of Mt. Vernon and Gary Hutchison and wife Helen of Valparaiso, Fla.; four grandchildren, Cari Shepard of Mt. Vernon, Lindsay Schroer and husband Nathan of Evansville, Ind.; Mark Hutchison of Valparaiso, Fla., and Sarah Hutchison of Oviedo, Fla.; a great-granddaughter, Madison Shepard; and many nieces and nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth Schmaljohn. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1 at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, with Howard Kraps and Randy Sells officiating. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 141. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Newell Funeral Home in Mt.
