Mabel (Graham) Isom
Miss Mabel GRAHAM, daughter of William and Mary E. (MARTIN) GRAHAM, was born in Franklin County, Illinois, on January the 18th, 1879. She departed this life on May 29, 1957, at the age of 78 years, 4 months, and 11 days. On September 4th, 1898, she was united in marriage to James D. ISOM, who preceded her in death. Uncle Jim and Aunt Mabel, as they were known to their many relatives and friends, had no children of their own, but devoted their lives to the rearing of her brothers and sisters. This family losing their mother at an early date, Mrs. ISOM became mother fo all. Uncle Jim and Aunt Mabel were very instrumental in the care and guardianship of Uncle Jim's nieces and nephews, who also were deprived of their parents at an early age. Again in the course of events, two nieces, Neva Jean and Beta Fay LEDBETTER, made their home from infancy through their childhood years with Uncle Jim and Aunt Mabel. At an early age in life she professed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and united with the Horse Prairie Baptist Church, remaining a faithful and dedicated member until God called her to her eternal home. Aunt Mabel's faith made her a loving neighbor with a burning desire to help others. Jesus' great principle, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," became a living reality in her life. Those who will miss Aunt Mabel's prescence most are three sisters: Mrs. Ruby HUIE, Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Verna LEWIS, Sesser, and Mrs. Lillian LEDBETTER, Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Hubert and Raymond GRAHAM of Chicago Heights, Ill., and a host of relatives and friends.
