Sarah J. (Frost) Johnson
Mrs. Sarah J. JOHNSON departed this life at her home, near Old Union, at 3:30 p.m., February 11, 1904, at the age of 73y5m26d. She was born near Nashville, Tenn., coming with her parents, Dr. & Mrs. Joseph FROST, to Illinois while yet a small girl, and settled in this county. In her 17th year she was married to Thomas Casey JOHNSON, who preceded her to the better world by some years. To this union was given eight children, two sons and six daughters; Joe N. dying in infancy; John S. in 1889; Mrs. Emma BYARD of Kansas City; Mrs. Eliza PETTIT, Mrs. Laura BEAL, Mrs. Alice CHERRY, Mrs. Lucy HERSHEY & Mrs. Ella RINE, all of this county. She was converted while yet a child at a camp meeting held at Old Union and at once united with the M. E. Church South, remaining a member of that church until her death.
Her last illness was brief, but not painless, but she bore her suffering with great
patience, coming to the end with peace & victory, leaving behind her the testimony
that all was will with her soul. The funeral service was conducted at the residence,
in the absence of her pastor, by the pastor of Mt. Vernon Circuit No. 1, after which
the remains were laid to rest in Old Union Cemetery.
