Ralph L. Karch, Sr.
RALPH L. KARCH, SR., 89, of Dix, Illinois, died at 2:20 A.M. Monday, February 19, 2007 at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He was born on Sunday, September 16, 1917 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois the son of Phillip Oliver Karch and Leona (Allen) Karch. He married Phyllis L. Jones in Mt. Vernon, Illinois on September 23, 1937 and she survives. He was a retired auto mechanic from Johnson Motors in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. FUNERAL MASS: was held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, February 22, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Father Robert Zwilling officiated. INTERMENT: followed at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 conducted Full Military Honors at the cemetery. VISITATION: was from 5 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Surviving family members include: Wife: Phyllis L. Karch of Dix, Illinois; 2 Sons: Ralph L. Karch, Jr. and wife Nancy of Nashville, Illinois and Martin B. Karch and wife Janet of Woodlawn, Illinois; 4 Daughters: Teresa L. Richmond of Shelbyville, Indiana, Rebecca A. Butts and husband Dale of Woodburn, Oregan, Mary Margaret Staley and husband Jerry of Dix, Illinois and Katherine E. Karch of LaGrange, Illinois; 17 Grandchildren; 22 Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. His parents and one sister: Margaret Webb prededed him in death. Ralph was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the St. Mary School or to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Venron, Illinois 62864.
