Edgar Leroy Keef
Edgar Leroy Keef, 79, of Mt. Vernon died Dec. 27, 2002, at his home. He was a self-employed carpenter. Mr. Keef was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Jefferson County to Andrew Earl and Jessie P. (Glover) Keef. He married Edna E. (Brown) Keef Jan. 4, 1947, in Morganfield, Ky.; she survives. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Hopewell Cemetery in Jefferson County. Military flag presentation will be conducted by the chaplain of American Legion Post no. 141 of Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Merle Fullerton will officiate. Those attending this service are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Sunday.Per the request of Mr. Keef, no public visitation will be held. In addition to his wife, Mr. Keef is survived by a son, Robert L. Keef and wife Becky of Bluford; four daughters, Sue Smith and husband Marshell, Ruth Ann Keef, Karen Jean Howell and Helen P. Klevore and husband Robert, all of Mt. Vernon; three brothers, Delbert Keef and wife Leota of Mt. Vernon, Bob Dean Keef of Centralia and Charles Wayne Keef of St. Louis; a sister, Marjorie Smith of Mt. Vernon; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren. He was a member of Bonnie Baptist church. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sharon Carlton; one brother; and one sister. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Bonnie Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, Ill. 62864.
