VETERAN OF CIVIL WAR IS BURIED TODAY

Andrew E. KIRK, who was brought from Richview to Mt. Vernon Hospital about two months ago suffering with a broken leg, died at 1 o'clock Sunday morning at the hospital, where he had been treated ever since the accident.

The body was taken yesterday to the home of his son, George E. KIRK in Bonnie. Mr. KIRK was buried today at Hickory Hill in McCLellan Township, the Odd Fellows having charge of the burial rites.

Mr. KIRK was a well known Jefferson County man and a member of one of the old and well known families of Jefferson County. He made this county his home until a few years ago, when he located at Richview. He was living at Richview when he fell and broke one leg. Mr. KIRK was highly respected by all who knew him and had many friends in Jefferson County. His age was 76 years, 11 months, and 24 days, having been born in 1842.

Mr. KIRK was a veteran of the Civil War.

He is survived by his wife and seven children as follows: Elza KIRK of Mt. Vernon, Railey G. KIRK of Harrison, Ark.; Mrs. T. A. Rachtel of Augusta, Wis.; John W. KIRK of Eureka, Mo.; George E. KIRK of Bonnie; and Charles KIRK of St. Genevieve, Mo.

Andrew E. Kirk was born May 7th A. D. 1847; died April 27th, 1924: aged 76 years, 11 months.and, 20 days.

His parents came to this state from Tennessee in 1849, settling in the southern part of Jefferson county, Ill., where he grew to man-hood.

At the age of 17 he enlisted in the service of his country to defend the Union. He was a member of Co. E, 155th Regiment, Illinois Volunteers.

Mr. Kirk was united in marriage to four wives as follows: First, Lucinda Oliver, To this union were born four children, Elzie, Bailey, and Lou, who are yet living and Nellie, who died in infancy.

His second marriage was to Lucy Darnell. To this union one son was born, John who survives.

His third marriage was to Ann G. Whitlock. To this union were born three sons, George, Charley and Edward, who are all living.

His fourth marriage was to Mrs. Sophia Gilbert, who survives.

Mr. Kirk is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Emiline Oliver and Mrs. Samantha Kirk, both of Ina.

Mr. Kirk was a farmer of Jefferson county, a member of the G.A.R. A member of the I.O.O.F. and was a Christian. Had been a member of the Christian church for about 40 years.

Funeral services were held at Hickory Hill cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Marion Boles and the I.O.O.F.
