Emma Kirk

Mrs. Emma KIRK, 73, of Ina died at Mt. Vernon Hospital at 8:45 o'clock last night of injuries received 45 minutes earlier when she was struck by a car while crossing State Highway 37 in Ina. Witnesses said that Mrs. KIRK started to cross the highway immediately after a truck passed and she walked into the path of an automobile driven by Frank C. GUTHRIE of Mt. Vernon. She was rushed to the hospital, arriving at 8:20 and lived for 15 minutes. She sustained fractures of both legs, one arm and other injuries.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Methodist Church in Ina and burial will follow in Kirk Cemetery. The body will remain at her home, where her many friends may call at any time up to the funeral hour.

Mrs. KIRK, a respected citizen of this county, was the widow of the late James V. KIRK.

She is survived by two sons, Byford of Ina and Harley of St. Louis, Mo.; and four daughters, Mrs. Nell ADAMS of Bonnie, Mrs. Nina MARSHALL of Herrin, Mrs. Millie DAVIS of Centralia and Mrs. Ina LANE of Cave-In-Rock.

Corner Ben ROEDER was to conduct an inquest at Ina this afternoon.

A corner's jury at Ina yesterday afternoon exonerated Frank C. GUTHRIE of blame in the accidental death of Mrs. Emma KIRK, 73, who was fatally injured Wednesday night when she was struck by a car driven by GUTHRIE.

A verdict of unavoidable accident was returned.

Mrs. KIRK was struck when she walked out on State Route 37 at Ina into the path of the automobile.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at the Methodist Church in Ina and burial followed in Kirk Cemetery, just north of Ina.
