John A. Koons
John Koons - Florida John A. Koons, 73, Fort Meyers, Fla., and a former resident of Mt. Vernon, died at 12:35 p.m. June 25, 1986, at his home. Mr. Koons was born October 18, 1912, in Mt. Vernon, the son of John A. and Delia J. (Williams) Koons, Sr. On Nov. 1, 1940, in Washington, D.C. he married Lucille Hempen, who survives. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. David Crook officiating. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in Oakwood cemetery. In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Bob (Barbara) Davenport and Mrs. Joan Lowther both of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, David Davenport and Joan Tate both of Mt. Vernon, Nancy Hensey of Memphis, Tenn., Paul Lowther and Tony Lowther, both of Centralia and Barbara Lowther of Phoenix, Ariz.; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Koons was owner and operator of John A. Koons Locksmith Co. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Mt. Vernon Lodge No. 31 AF and AM. He was also a member of the Mt. Vernon Moose Lodge and of the Fort Meyers, Fla., Country Club. Mr. Koons was a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his parents and two half brothers, Leo Koons and Fred Williams. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Program at Good Samaritan Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
