Samuel Virgil Lane
Lane Funeral Wednesday at E. Hickory Hill Funeral services for Samuel Virgil Lane, 70, a retired shoe factory employe who lived on R1, Opdyke, will be held Wednesday at East Hickory Hill Baptist Church. The services, starting at 2:30 p.m., will be conducted by the Rev. Allen England and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Lane, who was born at Bluford June 6, 1898, was the son of Carrol and Nancy (Davis) Lane. He died at 8:15 a.m. Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Lane's first wife, the former Ruby Shelton died in 1941. He is survived by his second wife, Anna; six sons, Virgil of La Grange, Ill., Vernon of Fairfield, Verdon of Anna, Harvey of Opdyke, Sammie of Mt. Vernon and Leonard of Marion, Ind.; one daughter, Norma Jean Thomason of Bluford; 22 grand-children, 3 great grandchildren; two brothers, Willnie of Bluford and Raymond of Wayne City; four sisters, Neona Wood of Keenes, Aleta Atkinson of Mt. Vernon, Lena Shelton of Bluford and Helen Modrow of Milwaukee; two stepsons, James and Thomas Elliston, and one stepdaughter, Evelyn Morgan, of Mt. Vernon. A daughter, two brothers and three sisters are dead. The body will lie in state at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix after 4 p.m. today until 11 a.m. tomorrow and at the church after 12 noon.
