Mary Reatis (Johnson) Laur
Mary Reatis (Johnson) Laur, 91 years of age, was joined with Jesus and the host of heavenly angels at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 16, 2004. Mrs. Laur was the most precious and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that this world has ever known. Mrs. Laur was born a daughter of Charley N. and M. Nellie (Hanson) Johnson on Oct. 23, 1913, in Ina. At a young age, Mrs. Laur recognized the importance of a quality education and, with determination and perseverance, she graduated as valedictorian with a teaching degree from Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville, Tenn. Mrs. Laur enjoyed a 27-year teaching career in the Jefferson County and Villa Grove areas, with a great heart of love for her students. Her students very much admired her as a lady and respected her as a teacher. In 1942 she was united in marriage with the love of her life, Lester “Leck” Laur, in Huntsville, Ala., as her groom was stationed in Tullahoma, Ala., with the United States Army. Mrs. Laur had a genuine love and adoration for her family that was beyond all measure. To her family, she was a strong and mighty tower; an angel sent from the portals of heaven; a very faithful and dedicated Christian example; a caring counselor in the time of need; and a kind, considerate and devoted friend.
