Evan R. Lee, 78, 621 Perkins Ave., died at 6:40 p.m. Sunday in Good Samaritan Hospital.

He was an employee of the shoe factory for 37 years before his retirement, and later was employed as a bailiff at the Jefferson County Courthouse.

Mr. Lee was born in Macedonia June 15, 1903, the son of Virgil M. and Janie S. (Moss) Lee.

On July 3, 1924, he married to Bessie R. Johnson, and she survives.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. George W. Waggoner officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, William V. "Bill" Lee of Springfield and Robert W. "Bob" Lee of Atlanta; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Woolard, and Mrs. Helen Ingram, both of Mt Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lee was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church and the Mt. Vernon Sunshine Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
