Freda Verne Lee, 85, of Mt. Vernon died 5:25 p.m. March 19, 2005, at Nature Trail Health Care Center.

Prior to her retirement, she worked for 28 years as a matchmaker for Mt. Vernon Shoe Factory.

Mrs. Lee was born March 27, 1919, in Jefferson County to Parley F. and Verne (Spurlock) Riggs.

She married Hoyt V. Lee April 21, 1992; he died Nov. 27, 2000.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Everett Lemay will officiate. Burial will follow at Kirk Cemetery in Ina. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Lee is survived by a son, Dale Pilson and wife Diana of Anson, Texas; daughters Donna Jeanne Stephens and husband Ken of Chesterfield, Mo., and Cheryl Pickett and husband Robert of Bonnie; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob Riggs of Dallas, Texas; and a sister, Maxine Gore and husband Lewis of Mt. Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hoyt V. Lee; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Lee was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
