Licena (Cochran) Lemke
Aged Woman of Spring Garden Died Early This Morning (Licena Cochran Lemke) Corner J. D. Dodds received an early morning call today from Spring Garden Township notifying him of the death about 3 o'clock this morning of Mrs. Lucina (Licina) LEMKE. Mrs. LEMKE, who was 72 years old, it seems lived alone, and two neighbors Lawrence C. COCHRAN and Ralph COCHRAN, respectively father and son, were with her when she died. The son testified he called at Mrs. LEMKE's home about 4 p.m. yesterday, looked after the fire, gave her a drink of water, and a little grape wine in a spoon, as she was too weak to drink it from a glass or cup. The father and son spent the night at the home, and the father testified as follows: "I came over here about dark yesterday and no one was here. I asked her if she wanted anything and she said no. I went over to Ralph COCHRAN's to see if he could come over and stay with me, and we came back together. We never realized she was as bad off as she was. About midnight she commenced moaning and about 3 o'clock she got weaker and stopped moaning. We looked at her and felt her pulse and found she was dead." Other neighbors, men and women were immediately notified of her death and came to the home. Mrs. LEMKE had been in impaired health, and it was stated a physician she consulted about seven months ago told her she would live only six months. It is stated death was caused by cancer of the breast. Testimony at the inquest showed that Mrs. LEMKE had been confined to her bed ever since Saturday. Corner Dodds may be reached in daytime by calling phone 1008 and at night by calling police headquarters 628-J.
