Abram Winfrey "Wink" Leuty
Abram Winfrey "Wink" LEUTY born Sept. 26, 1857 & died 1943 Wink Leuty, 86, well-known livestock dealer, died at his home in Dix at 1 a.m. today after an illness of two weeks. Mr. Leuty had been a prominent trader in the county for more than 60 years and was one of the first men in this section to ship to the East St. Louis livestock market. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 7, at 1 o'clock p.m. at Osborne's Funeral Home in Dix, conducted by the Rev. Marsh Harpole of Mt. Vernon, and assisted by the Rev. A. L. Smith of Dix. Burial will be in Zion Grove (County Line) Cemetery. The body will be in state at the funeral home. Mr. Leuty was born Sept. 26, 1857, the son of Azariah and Elizabeth (McConnell) Leuty. He was married to Belle Williams December 11, 1884, who died March 5, 1940. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mona Myers of St. Louis and Mrs. Hattie Rollinson of Mt. Vernon; two foster children, D. W. Myers, who is in the U.S. Army in Los Angeles, and Miss Awilda Myers at home, and who were reared in his home as son and daughter; one brother, Alfred of Dix, and four sisters, Mrs. Becky Ellis of Centralia, Mrs. Mary Murphy of Sandoval, Mrs. Martha Smith of Rockford, and Mrs. Lizzie Blankenship of Kell.
