Leslie Jay Lewis af Waltonville, 69 a retired farmer and former Mt. Vernon auto dealer died at 10:40 a.m. Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital.

In his youth Mr. Lewis was a race driver and his car No. 33 was a popular attraction at tracks throughout southern Illinois. For a number of years he was in the automobile business and was the dealer in Mr. Vernon for Hudson and Essex automobiles. He also sold radios when they first came on the market.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Fry Funeral Home in Waltonville. The Rev. David Terrell will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Gardens.The body will lie in state at the Fry Funeral Home, where friends may call at any time.

Mr. Lewis was born March 11, 1893 at Benton, the son of Charles M. and Cora (Simpson) Lewis.

On February 15, 1919 he was married, at Pinckneyville, to Eva McCowen who survives.

A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Legion Post in Mt. Vernon and the VFW in Waltonville.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Rowland Lewis of Chicago and Leslie D. Lewis of Waltonville; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Knight of Waltonville and Mary Edmondson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; nine grandchildren; one brother, Normal Lewis of Toledo, Ohio; and one sister Mrs. Jewell Martin of Christopher.

His parents, a son and a brother preceded him in death.
