Wilma Maxine Hicks Lowery, 84, of Mt. Vernon died 10:10 p.m. March 1, 2005, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She was born Aug. 7, 1920, in Cooks Mill, a daughter of William and Anna (Humphrey) Daniels.

She married Willis Hicks Sr. April 9, 1938, in Charleston, Mo.; he preceded her in death Dec. 3, 1957.

She later married Glen Lowery Sr., who also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Lowery was a homemaker and a loving mother for her 10 children.

She is survived by eight daughters, Joann Bacon of Mt. Vernon, Wilma Troutt of Mt. Vernon, Robin Mooney and husband Hershell of Bolder City, Nev., Betty Callinan of Mt. Vernon, Rosie Boswell and husband Robert of Mt. Vernon, Hallie Hatfield of Mt. Vernon, Marilyn Griffith and husband Adrian of Dix and Vickie Hicks of Mt. Vernon and two sons, Willis Hicks and wife Connie of Dix and Glenn Lowery of Mt. Vernon.

She is also survived by two brothers, Cecil Daniels of Mt. Vernon and Joe Daniels and wife Joanne of Sycamore; 32 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; four brothers; two sisters; a daughter, Donna Sue Hicks; and three sons-in-law.

Mrs. Lowery was a Protestant and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1376. She enjoyed bingo and garage sales.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with Charles Ellis officiating. Interment will follow at Old Shiloh Cemetery in rural Jefferson County. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
