Bob Madlem
Bob Madlem, 79, of Whitesville, Ky., died Sept. 1, 2006 at his home. He was a retgired crane operator after 56 years at Peters & Hartz Construction. He was born Jan. 8, 1927, in Greenup. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant hill Cemetery in Dix. American Legion Post 141 will provide full military honors. Burial will be follow at the cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene Madlem; two sons Ron Madlem and wife Fran of Washington, Ind., and Scott Madlem and his wife, Linda of Owensboro, Ky.; two daughters, Fickie Henry and husband, Wayne of Owensboro, Ky., and Penny Matthews, Fordsville, Ky.; grandchildren, Kelly Barrow and husband, Eric, Stacy McKay, Courtney Frantz and husband, Mike, Brad Madlem, Nikki Dragoo, Whitney Eaves and husband Chris, BBrittiany Mathews and Katie Stone and a step granddaughter, Connie Smith; 18 great grandchildren; sisters Betty Foster and Peggy Winnett, both of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Carol Staley, Jr., Mt. Vernon; and several nephews. Mr. Madlem was preceded in death his his mother, Arlene Mullen Staley and step-father, Carl Staley, grandson-in-law, David McKay, daughter; Pamala Sue Madlem and two great grandsons, Brannnon McKay and Daylin Matthews. He was a veteran fo World War II and the Korean War with the U.S. Army, as a paratrooper with the 101st. He was a member of the American Legion. He loved woodworking, fishing, hunting and bowling. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Hospice of Ohio County, Ky.
