Eliza (Stewart) Mannen
Mrs. Eliza MANNEN died Sunday at Waltonville Home Nov. 6, 1932. Was Widow of Sidney S. Mannen, in his lifetime, one of the prominent men of County. To be buried Tuesday Afternoon. Mrs. Eliza S. Mannen, widow of Sidney S. Mannen, died Sunday at her home in Waltonville, at 9:30 o’clock. Mr. Mannen in his day was one of the most prominentmen in the south part of the county. He preceded her in death about five years ago. Mrs. Mannen was born January 19,1858, near Red bud, in Monroe County, Illinois and she was a daughter of Peter and Hester Stewart. Most of her life was spent in Jefferson County. Mrs. Mannen is survived by five children, as follows: Mrs. T. H. Trappe, New Athens, IL; Mrs.Charles Hirons, Dixon, N. D., Orval Mannen, and Mrs. Knox Gee, Waltonville; and Mrs. Clyde R. Hammons, Carbondale. Thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild survive. A sister lives in Tuscon, Ariz. Mrs. Mannen had been in impaired health sometime, but was stricken with the illness which ended in her death Saturday, October 29. Mrs. Mannen was for many years a member of the Universalist Church of Waltonville, and in the years of her health and strength was very active in the church. She was a woman of many virtues, possed of a bright mind, and was held in the highest respect and esteem for all who knew her. In her long and useful life, she proved faithful in every duty, bravely met the responsibilities of life, and left nothing undone in the various relations of wife, mother and member of society. Her life was an inspiration to all who knew her, and she left her impress for good in the age in which she lived. Funeral services will be held at the family home in Waltonville at 1:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon. Note: daughter of Hester Upton Carmichael Stewart |
