Dorthy Mare, 95, of Mt. Vernon died 12:05 a.m. April 13, 2005, at Nature Trail Healthcare Center in Mt. Vernon.

She was a caregiver for the elderly and a babysitter.

Mrs. Mare was born April 12, 1910, in Algona, Iowa, to William and Nora (Long) Falwey.

She married George Mare Dec. 8, 1942, in Salem; he preceded her in death April 20, 1975.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Old Union Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Lindell Knox will officiate. Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Saturday morning. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Mare is survived by a son, Thomas W. "Tom" Mare and special friend Betty of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, John Thomas Mare and wife Rhonda of Bluford and Curtis William Mare and special friend Heather of Du Quoin; four great-grandchildren; a former daughter-in-law, Theresa Greene of Bluford; a sister, Hazel Knight of Spokane, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five sisters and a brother.

Mrs. Mare attended Logan Street Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon and was active at the Sunshine Center.
