Ethel (Hicks) Martin
Mrs. Ethel Martin passed to the higher life at her home in Scheller, Ill., August 29, 1916, after an illness of several months duration, followed by pneumonia. She was the youngest daughter of Mr. J.W. and the late Mrs. Corinna M. Hicks. She was born March 2, 1878, and was married to Mr. Harold Martin April 11, 1899, who with one son, Selwyn survives. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Eva Horner of Chester, Ill., one brother Elmer Hicks, of Benton and an aged father who will miss her sunny smiles. In her home and in the walks of life her light shone brightest, and the sweet memory will remain with us of her gentle ways and kindly counsel in helping us to have the hopeful spirit she possessed. Ethel was ever patient and hopeful, keeping her grief to herself that she might not burden others. Words fail to convey the sorrow caused by the death of this loved one. As death has invaded this family and called three of their loved ones, a mother and another sister, within a few months, their grief is great. All that medical skill and loving hands could do was done, but the weight of the malady from which she was suffering was too much for her poor tired body, and at 4:35 Tuesday morning, surrounded by her loving husband, relatives and friends, she closed her eyes to the scene of suffering and passed peacefully away where she will meet her precious little daughter, Gladys, who preceded her to the Spirit World, February 1909. Though her departure sends winter into our hearts, let us not mourn as those who have no hope, for we are told in I Tim.,3-4 That God will have (the rest is missing)
