Richard Lee “Dick” Martin, 67, of Marlow died 3:05 p.m. Jan. 7, 2005, at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis.

He was a concrete finisher, horse shoer and owner/operator of Parkway Shoe Repair in Mt. Vernon for 35 years.

Mr. Martin was born Feb. 5, 1938, in Mt. Vernon to William and Clara (Brown) Martin.

He married Vivian L. (Martintoni) Martin June 21, 1980 on horseback at their farm in Marlow; she survives.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Melvin Larson will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Vivian L. Martin of Marlow; three daughters, Barbara Wells and husband Lonnie of Mt. Vernon, Gayle Eblin and husband Randy of Mt. Vernon and Janis Harper and special friend Gary Steury of Bluford; a son, Mario Hodge and wife Debbie of Bluford; seven grandchildren, Le Ann Weaver of Pensacola, Fla., Michelle Henson of Mt. Vernon, David Pitman and wife April of Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas, Kristy Eblin of Mt. Vernon, Richard Harber and wife Bobbi of Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, Silvio Hodge of Bluford and Sophia Hodge of Bluford; six great-grandchildren, Haley Weaver of Mt. Vernon, Izice Barnes of Mt. Vernon, Maurice Barnes of Mt. Vernon, B.J. Williams of Mt. Vernon, Cheyanne Pitman of Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas, and Sidney Harper of Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota; a brother, Roy Martin and wife Elsie of Aurora; a sister, Edna Dial of Bluford; several nieces and nephews; two aunts, Bernadine Brown of Mt. Vernon and Alice Brown of Mt. Vernon; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Kluck of Mt. Vernon and Henry Flores of Gilroy, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Pat Martin of Salesville, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Donald, Alvey, Carl, Melvin and Delbert Martin; six sisters, Doris Fenton, Thelma Kluck, Helen Martin, Myrtle Martin, Mary Flores and Maxine Trobaugh; and a great-grandson, Raymond Henson Jr.

Mr. Martin was an avid horseman and member of the American Quarter Horse Association, several saddle clubs, the Jefferson County Shrine Club, Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge 31 A.F. & A.M. and was Baptist by faith.
