Harry S. Maulding
Harry S. Maulding, 77, 803 Park Ave., and late of Pomona Park, Fla.,died May 24, 1989, at Putnam Community Hospital in Palatka, Fla. Mr. Maulding was retired from the State of Illinois Vocational, Rehabilitation Department. He assisted in keeping the Mt. Vemon Kings, a class A minor league baseball club, in the city until the team's existence as a pro club ended with the 1954 season. Mr. Maulding was born June 18, 1911, in Hamilton County, a son of the Rev. Cyrus W. and Alma Maude (Shaw) Maulding. Sept. 6, 1936, in Van Buren, Mo., he married Louise Witzel, who survives. Mr. Maulding moved to Mt. Vernon in 1925 when his father became pastor of Park Avenue Baptist Church. The deceased was a 1929 graduate of Mt.Vernon Township High School. He received bachelors and master's degrees in banking and finance and economics from University of Illinois. He was employed as a case worker for the Illinois Emergency Relief Commission from Oct. 1, 1934, through July I, 1936. He then became director of the commission and established the Mt. Vernon Relief Commission. For the past 25 years, Mr. Maulding and his wife have both lived in Mt.Vernon and Florida. He spent four of those years as manager of Mt. Vernon Stores Inc. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Auxier officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. In addition to his wife, Mr. Maulding is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Roy (Deloris Louise) Mount of Kell; and three grandchildren, David G. Mount of Kell, Delora L. Mount of Urbana and Jerry D. Mount, of East Orange, NJ. Mr. Maulding was a member of Mt. Vernon Lions Club and served as Club president during 1959-60. He was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his, parents and one grandson, Stephen Mount.
