John B. Maulding
Veteran Pastor Dies (photo) John B. Maulding, Baptist minister for 53 years, died Jan. 20, following a heart attack. Funeral services for the 74 year old minister were held Jan. 22 from the First Baptist Church, McLeansboro. J.L. Ford of Lawrenceville conducted the service assisted by Hugh Widick of McLeansboro and Carl Whittington of Mt. Vernon. Ordained Aug. 30, 1909, Brother Maulding's ministry extended more than half a century. Pastorates included Ten Mile, Horse Prairie, Dahlgren, Burnt Prairie, Blue Mound, Blooming Grove, Mt. Pleasant, Logan St., Mt. Vernon, Keenes, East Benton, Antioch, Pleasant Hill, Hams Grove, Sesser, Paradise Prairie, Kell, Sneed, Thackeray, Woodlawn, East Salem, Delafield, Knights Prairie, Palestine, Rinard and Ina Baptist Churches in Mt. Erie, Salem South, Fairfield, Franklin and Nine Mile Associations. He served as moderator of the Fairfield association for more than 20 consecutive years and for 50 years extending from May 30, 1912, through May 30, 1961 he delivered each Memorial Dayu service at Horse Prairie Baptist Church. For 30 years he was a regular participant on the Baptist Hour broadcast over WEBQ and was heard each 14th day of the month by Baptist Hour listeners. He preached mroe than 3500 funerals during his ministry and conducted evangelilstic meetings in Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee. He is survived by his widow, Grace Carr Maulding to whom he was married in 1911, and two children, Col. John C. Maulding, Chicago and Mrs. Ruth Adams, McLeansboro, two sisters and a brother.
