Lonnie Lee McFarland

Lonnie Lee McFarland, age 73, of Mt. Vernon, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at his home at Heritage Woods Assisted Living Center in Mt. Vernon.

Lonnie was born in Sterling, Illinois, on April 29, 1950, the son of Bill Gene and Louise (Mize) McFarland.

He lived in Madison, Illinois, before making Southern Illinois his home, living in various towns of Southern Illinois, including Hurst, Christopher, Royalton, and Mt. Vernon. Prior to his retirement, he had worked as a forklift operator for Continental Tire. A passion for motorcycles, Lonnie had proudly served as a past president of the Madison Cruisers Motorcycle Club. He was a free spirit with a gentle heart who will be dearly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Survivors include his daughter- April McFarland of Granite City; son- Lonnie "Bubby" McFarland, Jr. of Blairsville; seven grandchildren- Nathan McFarland, Brittany White, Elizabeth McFarland, Kaitlynn (Ben) Mulholland, Hannah Brankov, Jeremiah McFarland, and Britton McFarland; seven great-grandchildren- Nathan, Natalie, Sophia, Emmerie, Ivory, Rowan, and Riley; seven siblings- Pete (Linda) McFarland, Carol Ann Curry, Robert (Diane) Sandefur, Billy (Marla) McFarland, Carl (Terri) McFarland, Les (Brenda) Wood, and Carol Ann (Jeff) Matiskie.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents and his niece- Brittany Wood.

Loved ones gathered on Sunday, March 10, 2024, to say their final goodbyes to a most wonderful and loving man prior to cremation rites. There will be no public services at this time. Family and friends are encouraged to remember Lonnie in your own way, reflecting on the moments shared and the impact he had on your life.
