Thomas L. McKenzie
Thomas L. McKenzie, 84, of Mt. Vernon died 1:15 a.m. Dec. 29, 2004, at Nature Trail Healthcare Center in Mt. Vernon. He was employed in pharmaceutical sales for 36 years in Southern Illinois. Mr. McKenzie was born Feb. 18, 1920, in Bonnie to Jesse and Enola (Hopper) McKenzie. He married Marian (Hayse) McKenzie Aug. 24, 1943 in Dubuque, Iowa; she died July 17, 2001. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Kirk Cemetery in Ina. The Revs. Everett Lemay and Mike Steed will officiate. Those attending the services are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Mr. McKenzie is survived by a daughter, Pamela Brown of Waltonville; grandchildren Megan Brown, Chris Brown and Matthew, John, Timothy and Mark McKenzie; a great-grandson, Landon Cole Brown; a nephew, Richard Brannon; and two nieces, Suzanne Rice and Judy Vanderbrook. He is also survived by his special and devoted friend, Ramona Sargent. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, John T. McKenzie; a brother; six sisters; a nephew; several nieces; and his special mother-in-law and father-in-law, Paul and Lillian Hayse. Mr. McKenzie was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, enlisting Aug. 11, 1939, and discharged Aug. 10, 1947. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters and in the invasion of France, D-Day, June 6, 1944. He was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge 725 A.F. & A.M. and Mt.
