Otto H. McNew
Otto H. McNEW, a retired farmer and lifelong resident of Jefferson County, died at 12:30 p.m. yesterday in Jefferson Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for the past nine days. Mr. McNEW, who made his home at 816 South 12th Street was 82 years of age. Services will be held in Myers Chapel tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.. The Rev. Bird GREEN and Rev. Douglas COX will conduct the funeral. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The body was in state at the chapel today. Mr. McNEW was born in this county on May 15, 1873, son of H. M. and Martha (NEWBY) McNEW. He was married to Clara B. Farlow on December 24, 1893. His wife survives. He was a member of the Hams Grove Baptist Church. Besides his wife, Mr. McNEW is survived by one son, Cecil H. McNEW, of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Hazel HERTENSTEIN, Oak Lawn, Ill., and Mrs. Lela GILLEY, of Mt. Carmel; 3 sisters, Mrs. Eva MOORE, Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Maude TROXTELL, Decatur, and Miss Eunice McNEW, of Chicago. Four grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by a son and daughter.
