Ethel (Carpenter) Meadows
Ethel Meadows, 62, of Route 5, was dead on arrival at Good Samaritan Hospital at 1:15 p.m. Friday. She was a retired employe of the Lear-Siegler stove foundry in Centralia. Mrs. Meadows was born in Jefferson County on Oct. 5, 1914; the daughter of John H. and Lena H. (Piercy) Carpenter. She was married on July 21, 1935, in Jefferson County, to John W. Meadows, who survives. She was a member of the Boyd Pentecostal Church, and was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the VFW in Mt. Vernon. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with Verneil Garren officiating. Burial will be in Boyd Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Sunday. In addition to her husband, John, Mrs. Meadows is survived by two sons, John H. Meadows, of Mt. Vernon and Edward Tate, of Dix; five daughters, Shirley Mick, Mt. Vernon, Ida Reeves, Mt. Vernon, Vera Hayes, Mt. Vernon, Betty Beckham and Sharion Johnson, both of Woodlawn; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a brother, James Carpenter, Batavia; and two sisters, Evelyn Wray, Bluford and Nora Simmons, Dix. She was preceded in death by her parents, three daughters and one sister.
