John William Meadows
John W. Meadows, 74, Route 5, died at f:45 a.m. May 28, 1987, at St. Luke's West Hospital in St. Louis. Mr. Meadows was a heavy equipment operator prior to his retirement. He was born March 27, 1913, in Decatur, a son of Wade and Hattie (Neabuhr) Meadows. On July 21, 1935, in Jefferson County, he married Ethel M. Carpenter. She preceded him in death Dec. 17, 1976. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Osborn Funeral Home at Dix and Verneil Garren will officiate. Burial will follow in Boyd Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Meadows is survived by one son, John H. Meadows and his wife Sherry of Mt. Vernon; one step son Edward Tate and wife Jean of Dix; five daughters, Shirley Mick, Betty Southerd and husband Gale, Ida Reeves and Vera Hayes and husband Rick, all of Mt. Vernon, and Sharion Johnson and husband Jerry of Woodlawn; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Meadows was a member of Boyd Pentecostal Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three daughters, four brothers and two sisters.
