Margaret Julia (Barva) Melton
Margaret Julia Melton, 95, of Route 3, Mt.Vernon, died 7:50 p.m. Aug. 28, 1994 at Jeffersonian Nursing Home. She had be employed at the Mt. Vernon Shoe Factory. Mrs. Melton was born Sept. 6, 1898, in Jefferson County, a daughter of Lewis B. and Dora [Morrison] Barva. On Sept. 1, 1917, in Jefferson County, she married Ralph Melton who died Sept 21, 1971. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Melvin Vandeloo officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hughey Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Melton is survived by a son, Lawrence B. "Bennie" Melton and wife Hazel in Mt.Vernon; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Urich of Mt.Vernon, Agnes Minor of Cambria, Iowa, and Alline Wicks of Mt.Vernon; a son-in-law, Albert 'Red' Gentles of Mt.Vernon; and several nieces and nephews survive also. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Alpha Gentles, and Bernadine Davis, five brothers, William Barva, Louis Barva, Paul Barva, Manuel Barva, and Leo Barva; two sisters, Myrtle Barva and Lillian Barva; and a grandson, Jerry G.
