William C. "Bill" Monaghan
William C. "Bill" Monaghan, 87, of Bluford, died 12:45 pm Jan. 19, 1994, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon. He was a machinist for 42 year with Illinois Central Railroad. He was born Feb. 2, 1906, in Nettleton, Miss., a son of Charles Clifton and Dora (Adams) Monaghan. He first married Genevieve Harris. He then married Edna Mae Billingsley and then married Mamie V. Green Swain. Services will be 11 am Friday at Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Talley officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. Friends may call after 9 am Friday at the funeral home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bluford and the International Association of Machinists Centralia Lodge No. 1055. Surviving are four sons, Robert Monaghan of Bull Head City, Ariz., William C. "Billy" Monaghan of Fredericksburg, Va., Charles Monaghan of Mt. Vernon and Earl Monaghan of Anna; two daughters, Margaraet Ann Schwhingel and husband Ken of Belvidere and Carol Barron Hennefent and husband Chad of Bluford; stepson, Larry Dean Swain of Centralia; a stepdaughter, Linda Kay Hulbert of Bluford; adopted children, Vonda Hicks of Mt. Vernon and Lonnie Monaghan of Marlow; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Monaghan and Charline Miller, both of Nettleton, Miss.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
