Chester Rich “Chet” Morlan
Chester Rich “Chet” Morlan, 69, of Fruita, Colo., formerly of Mt. Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999, at his residence. He was born Dec. 24, 1929, in Mt. Vernon, son of Chester Douglas and Laura Ana (Rich) Morlan. He married Rosalie Johnson on Feb. 22, 1961, and she survives him, and through 38 years of marriage, the ups and downs, Chet deeply loved Rosalie. He is also survived by two sons, Steve Morlan of Parker, Colo., and Jeff Morlan of Lakewood, Colo.; two daughters, Jane Taylor of Grand Junction, Colo., and Julie Morlan of Lakewood, Colo.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at Callaban-Edfast Mortuary with Cheryl Rogers officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Jewish Hospital Lung Research at 1400 Jackson St., Denver, Colo. 80206. According to his wishes, Mr. Morlan’s body was cremated. Chet was in the U.S. Army for eight years and was a veteran of the Korean conflict. On Sept. 24, 1999, a military service and burial will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo. Mr. Morlan was an officer in the Lions Club and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Chet was also a member of the Sheetmetals Local No. 9 and Pipefitters Local No. 208 of Denver, Colo. In later years, Chet became an accomplished wood carver of wildlife, especially elk and deer. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Elizabeth Morris, Vernadine Lyons, Fay Cooper, Maxine Henry and Hetty Lucille Shehorn; two brothers, Kermit and Robert Warren Morlan; two nieces, Sandra Morlan Dugas and Romana Cooper Hughey; and two nephews, William Robert Shehorn and Roger Morlan. Mr. Morlan is also survived by two sisters, Rosemary Redmon of Dittmer, Mo., and Phyllis Premeaux of Groves, Texas. Surviving nephews are Richard and Roger Morris, Richard and Bob Morlan Jr., Mark and Guy Henry Jr., Jerry, Johnny and Jim Barber, and Gaylord Douglas and David Allen Shehorn. Surviving nieces are Cheryl Morlan Lane, Jenny Morlan Lane, Beverly Morlan Gensler, Tammy Morlan Polley, Kay Morlan Nuernburger, Mary Sue Henry Rainey, Sarah Henry Schussle and Joyce Barber Farley. Sadly missed and fondly remembered by all and especially by nephew Gaylord Shehorn, great-nephew Doug Shehorn and lifelong friend Gerald Sheridan, all of Mt. Vernon.
