Ernest Ivan Moss
Ernest Ivan Moss, 81, of Mt. Vernon, and a resident for 17 years of Venice, Fl., died 8:30 a.m. Sept. 19, 1989, at the home of his granddaughter, Pam Dodson, Opdyke. Mr. Moss was vice president of Dowzer Electric for 20 years before retiring and moving to Venice, for health reasons. He was born Dec. 17, 1907, in Shiloh Township, a son of Angus Ivan and Ida May (Galbraith) Moss. April 13, 1928, he married Winnie Neone Anderson, who died April 2, 1982. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Madison R. Bittner and the Rev. Merritt Strickland officiating. Mr. Moss will be cremated. Burial will be later in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Mr. Moss is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John H. (Joan) Kent of Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Owen Martin (Sue) Henn of Fort Worth, Texas; five grandchildren, Michael E. Kent of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Monty L. (Pamela) Dodson of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Kenneth E. (Lisa) Hayse of Mt. Vernon, Steven M. Henn of Fort Worth, and Mrs. James (Deborah) Mart of Fort Worth; 11 great-grandchildren; and several cousins. Mr. Moss attended Old Union and Lincoln grade schools and Mt. Vernon Township High School. He supervised the construction and completion of the First Baptist Church building in Briarwood, and was a member of the Lions and Optimist Clubs for several years, and a member of the First Baptist Church. He was also a descendent of early Jefferson County settlers. In addition to his wife, Mr. Moss was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Ella May; four half brothers; three half sisters; and great-grandson, Monty Dodson. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, and will be accepted at Hughey Funeral Home.
