Earl Newell, 78 Dies; Funeral At Waltonville Earl Newell, 78, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at his home, 309 south 11th street, following an apparent heart attack. A retired farmer, he was a former resident of Waltonville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Fry Funeral Home in Waltonville with the Rev. Tracy Dees officiating. Burial will be in Knob Prairie cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Fry Funeral Home where friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Newell was born March 25, 1898, in Jefferson county, the son of George and Sarah (Gilbert) Newell. He was married to Roxie Mae Neal, who preceded him in death in March 1946. He is survived by a son, Neal Newell, of Seal Beach, Calif,; a half-brother, Oscar Newell; a half-sister, Mrs. Roy Freeman, both of Waltonville; and two grandchildren; Mrs. Ernie Simms of Mt. Vernon, and Sgt. Larry Newell, now serving with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Mr. Newell was a veteran of World War One.
