Idella (Mason) Newell
Mrs. Idella Mason Newell, wife of W. R. Newell, died at the family residence near Waltonville early this morning. Mrs. Newell, who was the daughter of Warren D. and Nancy Brown Mason, was born at Chesterville, Ill., Nov. 23, 1883, and was united in marriage with Mr. Newell at Paris, Ill., on Dec. 27, 1902. She and Mr. Newell met while both were students at Ewing College, she having been a student there for three years beginning in the fall of 1898. Besides the husband, she is survived by two sons, Marion and Mason of Waltonville; and one daughter, Ruth Elizabeth at home; three grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Winifreda King of St. Louis and Mrs. Leota Jones of Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Newell enjoyed an unusually large acquaintance. The many friends she made during her college days remained her friends for life. She was very prominent and active in church and fraternal circles and by reason of her outstanding ability had contributed much to the furtherance of the ideals for which these organizations stand. Funeral services will be held at the Waltonville M. E. church at 10:30 a.m. Friday followed by burial in Knob Prairie cemetery. The body will remain at the Myers chapel until 10 a.m. Friday.
