Walter Raleigh Newell Sr.
Walter Riley Newell, Age 75, well-known farmer who was formerly cashier of a Waltonville bank, died at 1:45 p.m. yesterday at his home west of Waltonville. Mr. Newell was born November 21, 1880 in the same house where he died. He was the son of Ichabod and Ida (Philp) Newell. He was married to Idella Mason December 22, 1902. After her death he was married to Edna Jones, November 3, 1936, who survives. He attended Ewing and McKendree Colleges and was a member of the Methodist church at Waltonville. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Waltonville Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. E. L. Gulley. Burial will be in Knob Prairie cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Fry Funeral Home until noon Thursday, at which time it will be removed to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour. Surviving are his wife; five sons, Marion and Mason of Waltonville, Herbert, Albert and Walter Riley at home; two daughters, Mrs. Phil Moore of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Miss Rosemary Newell, at home; nine grandchildren, one brother, James P. Newell of Waltonville, and one sister, Mrs. Elsie Hodge of Waltonville.
