Sarah (Jines) Oakley
Sarah Ann OAKLEY, wife of Joseph J Oakley, 213 south Second street, died Sunday morning at 3 o'clock. Mrs. Oakley's health failed almost fourteen years ago, and two years later her health became further impaired, and since that time she had been an invalid much of the time. For almost three years Mrs. Oakley had been not only bedfast but helpless, suffering with what was styled progressive palsy. Mrs. Oakley was born March 27, 1854 in Flora, KY., and her maiden name was JINES. She came to Mt. Vernon early in life and practically her entire life was spent in this city. Mr. and Mrs. Oakley were married in the winter of 1871 and their married life covered a period of almost 57 years. Mrs. Oakley is survived by her husband, Joseph J. Oakley, two sons, Orley Oakley, St. Louis, and Fred Oakley, Howell, Ind. and three daughters, Mrs. James HENRY and Mrs. E.W. THRELKELD, Mt. Vernon and Miss Maud Oakley, Indianapolis. Two sisters, Mrs. Wm. HALL, Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Wilson RALLS, Dahlgren, survive. Funeral services were held today at 2 o'clock at the Epworth M.E. church, conducted by Rev. J.H. DAVIDSON and burial was had at Sursa cemetery.
