Melvin Oathout Of Belle Rive Died At Age 71 The Rev. Melvin Oathout, 71, Belle Rive, died 4:42 a.m. Nov. 14, 1990, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. The Rev. Oathout was a minister and farmer until retirement. He was born Sept. 12, 1919, in Jefferson County, a son of Clarence and Zetta (Linville) Oathout. Dec 18, 1937, in Mount Vernon, Ind., he married Geraldine J. Drew, who survives. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren with Revs. Raymond Capps and Andy May officiating. Burial will follow in Flint Cemetery in Belle Rive. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In addition to his wife, the Rev. Oathout is survived by two sons, James Oathout and wife, Sue of Land O’Lakes, Fla., and Lindel Oathout and wife, Gale, of Belle Rive; six grandchildren, Cordell, Chris, Tanya and Lindel Oathout Jr., all of Belle Rive, and Linda Rayburn and Rick Oathout, both of Florida; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Rayburn of Florida. The Rev. Oathout was a member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church of Scheller and the Ruritan Club of Opdyke. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
