Dalton Lawrence Owens
Dalton Lawrence Owens, 81, of Bonnie died 3:17 p.m. Nov. 3, 2004, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was employed by the state police in Du Quoin as a radio technician for 25 years. Mr. Owens was born Dec. 22, 1922, in Marion to James Dalton and Alta Jane (Gower) Owens. He married Myrna Jewell (Payne) Owens Oct. 27, 1945; she died Feb. 2, 1998. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Abner Cemetery in Nason. Services will be conducted by American Legion Post 141. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville. Mr. Owens is survived by a daughter, Beverly Norris and husband Wendell of Waltonville; grandsons Dallas Day of Mt. Vernon, Jordan Norris of Waltonville and Marcus Norris of Waltonville; a granddaughter, Cassi Quick of Waltonville; a great-grandson, Justice Owens of Waltonville; a great-granddaughter, Jadyn Day of Mt. Vernon; and sisters Florence Bennett of Bonnie and Delores Fite of South Roxana. He was preceded in death by his father, James Owens; his mother, Alta Jane (Gower) Owens; his wife, Myrna (Payne) Owens; a son, Jerry Owens; and brothers James Owens and Lowell Owens. Mr. Owens served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Protestant.
