Douglas "Dougy Fresh" Paul Owens, 37, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 6:30 am February 23, 2024 at his residence.

He was born June 26, 1986 in Saint Louis, Missouri to James "Jim" and Connie (Smith) Owens.

In addition to his parents, Douglas is survived by his sister, Jamie Owens of Mount Vernon, Illinois; brother, Matt Owens and wife, Mallorie of Cary, North Carolina; grandfather, C. Howard Smith of Mount Vernon, Illinois; nieces and nephews, Peyton, Kylon, Remy, Jayslon, Jude, Gracyn, Reece, Parson, and Faith; and several uncles and cousins.

Douglas was preceded in death by grandparents, Jack and Donna Owens and Bonnie Smith and close cousin, Mikey Smith.

Douglas attended Bethel Baptist Church and loved camping and playing video games. Douglas was sweet, kind, humorous, boisterous, a hard worker, and had a big generous heart. He loved everyone hard and will be dearly missed.

A Greeting of Family and Friends will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Douglas' honor to Jefferson County Animal Shelter.
