Harold Owens
Harold I. "Hoot" Owens, 66, of Woodlawn died at 10:27 a.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2003, at St. Mary's/Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia. He was born on June 9, 1937, in Walnut Hill, the son of Cecil and Ferne (Stonecipher) Owens. He married Donna Corners on Sept. 28, 1956, in Woodlawn and she survives in Woodlawn. In addition to his wife, Mr. Owens is survived by two sons, Brad Owens and wife Sheila of Coopersburg, Pa., and Scott Owens and wife Kelly of Woodlawn; two sisters, Wilma Braddy and Dorothy Jean Wegmann and husband Harold Eddie, both of Woodlawn; four grand-children, Erin Owens, Eric Owens, Gabe Owens and Ross Owens; a sister-in-law, Edna Owens of Mt. Vernon; and several nephews and nieces. Mr. Owens retired in 1999 from the Illinois Central Railroad after 44 years of service. He was also a farmer, He served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a member of Woodlawn Christian Church. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Boyd Cemetery in Jefferson County with the Rev. Harold Engel officiating. Those attending the services are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Interment will follow at the cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
