Mary Eleanor Pearce, 74, of Mt. Vernon died 5:40 p.m. June 20, 2006, at White Oak Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon.

She was a clerk in the bakery at IGA.

Mrs. Pearce was born Nov. 6, 1931, in Mt. Vernon to Mable Newell.

She married Byford Pearce Oct. 20, 1950, in Mt. Vernon; he survives.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. today at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Melvin Larson will officiate. Those attending the service are asked to gather at the cemetery this morning.

Mrs. Pearce is survived by her husband, Byford Pearce of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Barbara Beal and husband Gary of Dix; a grandson, Byford Beal and wife Jamie of Mt. Vernon; and three great-grandchildren, J.T., Hailey and Gavon Beal of Mt. Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her mother and her grandparents, William and Mary Newell.

Mrs. Pearce was raised by her mother and grandparents, William and Mary Newell.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital and will be accepted at the cemetery or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
