Charles Alfred Pettit
Chas. A. Pettit Dies At Age 86; Rites Tomorrow Charles Alfred Pettit died at 11:55 A.M. Saturday at his home on RFD 5, Mt. Vernon. He was 86 years, one month, and 26 days old. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. tomorrow at the Pulley Chapel with the Rev. Benjamin Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery, adjoining Pleasant Grove Methodist church, of which he was a member. Mr. Pettit was born September 23, 1874, in Jefferson County, Illinois, the son of Jasper and Eliza (Johnson) Pettit. On September 15, 1898 in Mt. Vernon, he was married to Nellie Nesmith, who survives. Other survivors include a son, George Pettit of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Mrs. Mary Moss, also of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, and a brother. Mr. Pettit was a farmer.
