Cora M. Phelps, 87, of Dix died at 2:40 pm, Sunday, July 26, 2009 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She was born March 13, 1922 in Pinkckneyville, Illinois, the daughter of John W. Harvey and Ada (Piercy) Harvey.

On November 7, 1939, she married James Harold Phelps in Jackson, Missouri, and he preceded her in death on October 7, 1978.

Mrs. Phelps is survived by a son, Joseph B. Phelps and wife Sandy of Caseyville, Illinois; a daughter, Neva Sue Carter of Mt. Vernon; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; three brothers, Fred Harvey and wife Kay of Arcola, Illinois, John H. Harvey and wife Shirley of Junction City, Illinois and Charlie Easton of Mt. Vernon; and three sisters Margaret Morgan of Dix, Lean Faye Johnston and husband Gene of Mt. Vernon, and Joan Cameron and husband Loyd of Memphis, Tennessee.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Nellie Houghland; one son, James C. Phelps; and one great-grandchild, Brittney Nichole Coleman.

Mrs. Phelps attended School in Pinckneyville, Illinois and retired from Dr. Filberth's Clinic after 31 years. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

Graveside services will be held at Boyd cemetery at 11am Wednesday, July 29, 2009, with Danny Wilson officiating. There is no public visitation, and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, or the Baptist Children's Home of Carmi and will be received at the Osborn Funeral Home, PO Box 130, Dix, Illinois 62830
